From icanhascheezburger, bien sur.
Yet again, I’m not going to be at Star Wars Weekends. Now mind you, I’ve only been there once, but that doesn’t stop me from griping about it on a regular basis, and occasionally daydreaming about what I’d do if I could be there. From this week’s Jentasmic! column at StudiosCentral:
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I’d never been to Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But in 2008, I attended for the first time, and since then there’s been a radical disturbance in the force: Since I haven’t managed to get back for another round, I therefore spend each May wishing I were headed down to Florida for the weekend, to cavort once again with Ewoks, stormtroopers, and celebrity guests.
But instead, I find myself perusing the schedule posted at the Star Wars Weekend section of Studios Central, and thinking of what my top priorities would be if, perchance, I were able to hop a flight this morning and take in a little time with the Empire and the Rebel Alliance.
And by the way, Matt “Mr. Outstanding” Hochberg’s got the full Jentasmic! archives available over on the site. If you’re looking for an interesting offbeat Disney read, you could do worse than to browse through the past articles.
Hey there, my librarian friend George! According to Kotaku, there’s a new book coming this fall you might just want on the shelf.
A pair of Epic Mickey books are planned for release after the Disney video game, one of which sounds like a straight up novelization with big print (Epic Mickey Junior Novel), the other which sounds like it could be an ongoing serialization of the game universe.
More information (including some Epic Mickey spoilers) is over at Kotaku.
A hat tip to my son the Watchamacallit for sending me the link.
BoingBoing called this the “Worst Ice Capades Eva.” Me, I’d seen some of the other costumes before, but never the old school Pluto in quite this pose. Scary.
I’m also worried about the pig in diapers, who looks rather ashamed.
According to upunk via Google Translate:
“Dismayland”, the artist Jeff Gillette, is a juxtaposition of completely opposing worlds of art, favelas and Disneyland. Mixing the likes of Minnie, Daisy, or mice in Cinderella with elements of artists like Takashi Murakami and Roy Lichtenstein, all in a world between favelas and post-Apocalypse.
There are lots more to see . . .
Happy Star Wars Day everybody! May the fourth be with you! Let’s see, how shall we celebrate?
Well, we could begin by watching the Star Wars Holiday Special on Google Video, and be grateful that the interwebs mean we no longer have to scour fan conventions looking for an old VHS dub. Or, if we’ve seen it before and need a little extra boost, we could watch it again with a rifftrax. Or if we’re in a hurry, we could just reminisce over Princess Leia’s timeless song.
If we had planned ahead, we could have worn this Admiral Ackbar shirt from woot.com. “It’s a trap!”
We could book a trip to Star Wars Celebration V, conveniently located in Orlando, not far from that little magical place some of us like to visit from time to time. Or, if want a little tighter pairing between our Disney and Star Wars needs, it’s not too late to plan for Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which begin May 21. StudiosCentral has all the info you need, including a planning chat this coming weekend.
While we’re at StudiosCentral, we could refresh our memories about the timeline for Star Tours 2, since no doubt we’re obsessive enough fans that this isn’t news.
And finally, especially if we’re feeling down and out, we could enjoy Crackerjack Junction’s rendition of the Ewok celebration song. (Hat tip: BoingBoing) And no, I haven’t a clue where the translation comes from, but let’s just go with it shall we?
