Major Expansions Planned at Disney World

Hot off the presses, from

Walt Disney Co. on Thursday said it was planning two major expansions to its Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, including a 900-acre luxury resort and a commercial district outside the gateway entrance.

The new commercial district doesn’t come as any surprise; rumors has it that this will be a discount shopping district, to compete with all those Orlando outlet malls. But I for one hadn’t heard about the new resort, which reportedly will be anchored by a Four Seasons Hotel. More details are available from Earthtimes and Florida Today.

In related news, Hotel and Motel Management Week in Review has info about a new luxury condo at Celebration, which broke ground last year and is scheduled to open this September:

The 240-unit Mona Lisa at Celebration is located on 12 tropically landscaped acres, just five miles south of Walt Disney World at the intersection of Interstate 4 and U.S. Highway 192. When complete, the four-star, luxury condo hotel will feature 93 one- and 147 two-bedroom units ranging in size from 704 to 1,267 square feet. The suites will be fully furnished and feature 9-foot ceilings; stainless steel appliances and solid-surface counter tops in the full-size kitchens; solid surface vanities and ceramic tile in the bathrooms; bedrooms with luxury linens and king-size beds; queen-size sleeper sofas and LCD flat screen TVs in the living rooms; and furnished balconies on every suite.
