Being a part of the MouseGuest Weekly podcast has been fabulous! But the time has come for Those Darn Cats to move along. Lisa and I are not quite sure right now what comes next for us, or whether we’ll eventually come back to the show.
We’ve really enjoyed participating in the online Disney fan community this way, so we’ll be exploring various possibilities in podcasting. We might even start up our own show . . . which feels like a bizarre idea given how many fabulous Disney podcasts are already out there, but hey, if you’ve listened to any of our segments you know we’re pretty bizarre sometimes anyway, with our own particular blend of chaotic, feline, sometimes cranky, pixie dust. We’ve set up a new blog where we’ll announce any appearances we might eventually make on other Disney podcasts, and we may well also post a few Those Darn Cats segments that didn’t make it to the interweb yet.
I’d like to thank Eric (of MouseGuest) for giving us our first podcasting home (and our moniker), and Dan (of MouseGuest and Venis Productions) for the wonderful logo, as well as the banner image for our new blog. I’d also like to thank everybody who’s listened to Those Darn Cats, especially the kind and supportive members of the Those Darn Cats fan club!
If you’ve enjoyed our segments, I’m Kitty-chan, and you’ve been listening to Those Darn Cats. If not, my name is Stupid Judy, and this has been Universe of Energy. Over and out!
Wha?!?
What? But you’ll still be writing here, right? Because it makes me happy, darn it.
Chris, thanks so much for the kind words. And yes, Broke Hoedown isn’t going anywhere! I’ll still be doing Jentasmic! for StudiosCentral as well.
I’m really glad my blog makes you happy. 🙂
You will be missed. 😦 We’ll be looking forward to whatever you two decide to do. 🙂
Oh, a bit of end of an era, but excited (potentially scared) to see what you two cook up next.
no end of an era chris, perhaps at the old stomping grounds, but tomorrow (insert evil laugh here) THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!
plus, it is well known that jennifer swears like a sailor. so it is fortunate we made it family friendly as long as we did. 😛
Swears like a sailor, huh? That would definitely make an interesting Disney-based podcast…haha
I’ve been known to make a sailor blush a time or two. Well, alot actually.
I dunno if I cuss like a sailor . . . but I will say that when my band was still together, very few of our songs were radio-friendly! It is in fact miraculous that TDC managed to stay family-friendly and not cost MGW its iTunes “clean” rating.
I’d love to hear from people about what they’d enjoy in a TDC independent podcast. We’ll be regrouping and pondering over the next couple weeks or so, and it would be awesome to hear from you guys about what would appeal to you. Does it matter if we’re not always family-friendly? What sorts of segments might be interesting? If you have thoughts you’re willing to share, please post them here, or drop me a note at bad.badtz.maru at gmail.com.
i think you should have some weirdo doing a newscast segment.
Jennifer,
I think LTAD does a “uncensored” version of their podcast called LTAD-X that is a separate “show” (by uncensored my understanding means you take it as it and it’s frank discussions. I haven’t listened yet).
You could always entertain that idea where you have planned recordings that will be released under a separate cover that isn’t so family friendly and is clearly marked as such.
I liked the perceived “no agenda” type format that TDC put together. But, my most memorable segment was the one with you, Lisa, and the Watchamacallit (I think that’s your pet name for him) taking a feminist look at DIsney movies (I think you are the only other source that pointed out that Tink wanted to kill Wendy).
I think we need more podcasts that are sugar coated, BUT at the same time aren’t perceived as anti-Disney. You all seem to do that.
You 2 are my favorite part of MGW!!!! If you aren’t going to do the MGW anymore, how about your own weekly Podcast….You’ve got a fan base….We’d LOVE to see that!!!
BTW, I was so Psyched when the April fools day show played…
and bummed when I realized it was a joke……
Any who….Please don’t leave us hanging!!!!
where could we find a weirdo news commentator….
Marc, thank you . . . you are too kind!
We’re planning to release a few mini-podcasts over the next few weeks. We had already recorded a few TDCs that hadn’t made it onto MGW, so we’re editing/mixing those as a sort of bridge; I’ll post to my blog when the first mini-podcast comes up, and I’ll link to the RSS feed.
We’re planning to eventually launch a new podcast, which will likely be a mix of our usual TDC shenanigans, an offbeat Disney news segment from Mr Broke Hoedown, brief reviews from my son The Wachamacallit, and other segments still to be determined. One thing’s for sure: We’re not going to constrain our ramblings to fit within an iTunes “clean rating.” Sure, we’ll still be mostly clean and will probably stay within the PG-13 range, but I for one don’t feel the need to stay 100% family-friendly.
