I’m a huge Pixar fan, but Cars is my least favorite of their films, and I can’t quite get worked up about the sequel. At this point, the film’s biggest selling point to me is that on average, it took 11.5 hours to render each frame.
And actually yeah, that just might be enough to get me in the theaters. But if second-weekend figures are any indication of the film’s momentum at the box office, I might just need to get to the theater sooner than later if I want that big-screen, expensive-render-farm experience.
I saw it yesterday and I’m going to post my review today. Short review: it’s better than the score on Rotten Tomatoes would lead you to believe. I would describe it as being a step to the side from the original Cars. It’s simultaneously better and worse than the original.
Agreed with liakahi. It’s wonderful to look at — there’s lots of detail packed into those sumptuously illustrated frames — and I was entertained more often than I wasn’t, which is all one can realistically ask of a story built around talking cars. But it’s merely good, and Pixar has conditioned us to expect great.
Now see, this is why we need some sort of simulcast service for newly-released films. Because I just know I’d have more fun watching Cars 2 if both you guys were in some chat room with me the whole time.
But okay, since the interwebs haven’t offered me such a service yet, guess I just gotta see the film so I can find out if I agree.
The only thing I can think of would be Skyping while watching the home video release.
We need MuMu for movies!
Don’t let the gossip fool you. When people say “It’s better than expected” it doesn’t mean it’s a good film. My big issue with Cars 2 is that I have a gut feeling the only reason this film was made was because of the merchandising opportunities. One of the main gripes I’ve heard is that there is a weak story. I say wait for the DVD.
I enjoy the first Cars movie and I think Cars2 should be fun as it’s has a completely different story line.
